Wyoming to house first-of-its-kind advanced nuclear project replacing coal plant

Abby Smith of The Washington Examiner reports that Wyoming will house a first-of-its-kind advanced nuclear project to replace a coal-fired power plant.

The C3 Take
  • Bill Gates’s TerraPower will build an advanced nuclear reactor demonstration project in Wyoming.
  • The advanced reactor will have a capacity of 345MW, and with the right storage technology, the plant could reach 500MW- which is enough to power about 400,000 homes.
  • The innovation of the free market is paving the way for a clean energy future.

“The TerraPower demonstration project will be located at the site of one of PacifiCorp’s retiring coal-fired power plants. The companies haven’t chosen which retiring coal plant yet but are expected to announce the location for the project by the end of this year.”
