The World Won’t End If the Green New Deal Doesn’t Pass

Philip Rossetti of R Street writes in RealClearEnergy that the world won’t end if the Green New Deal does not pass.

The C3 Take
  • Climate change is a serious problem that should be addressed, but radical ideas such as the Green New Deal are not the answer.
  • We can reduce the risks of low probability, high impact climate scenarios through energy innovation and R&D, investing in mitigation and resilience efforts, and reducing government barriers to allow the private sector to thrive.
  • Economic freedom, not radical progressive policies, is the most effective way to address climate change while allowing humanity to flourish.

“The climate provisions in the House Democrats’ reconciliation package would certainly lead to some emission reduction, but it is not the end of the world if it does not pass. Incrementalism has already delivered a lot of emission abatement, and even without a Green New Deal, the United States and other developed nations will keep marching on climate progress.”
