Lora Kolodny of CNBC reports that Tesla has filed to become an electricity provider in Texas.
- If it is approved to be an electricity provider in Texas, Tesla will look to connect its 100 megawatt energy storage system near Houston to the grid.
- Thus far, Tesla’s batteries have been used to help other companies store energy and power.
- By providing up to 100 megawatts of energy storage to the grid, Tesla could provide greater reliability to Texas’ power grid.
“Tesla wants to sell electricity directly to customers in Texas, according to an application filed by the company this month with the Public Utility Commission there.”
