Exxon Considers Pledging ‘Net-Zero’ Carbon by 2050

Christopher M. Matthews and Emily Glazer of The Wall Street Journal report that Exxon is considering making net-zero carbon pledges.

  • Exxon is facing pressure from investors and other members of the business community to announce net-zero goals.
  • For now, Exxon has pledged to reduce its carbon intensity and will unveil more specific climate plans later this year.
  • While it remains to be seen if  Exxon will make a net-zero carbon pledge, it is encouraging to see so many members of the private sector taking their environmental impact seriously.

Exxon XOM +0.95% Mobil Corp. is considering a pledge to reduce its net carbon emissions to zero by 2050, according to people familiar with the matter, in what would amount to a significant strategic shift by the oil company.”
