Biden to announce target for 50% electric vehicle sales as he unveils stricter emissions rules

Josh Siegel of The Washington Examiner reports that President Biden will announce a new target for electric vehicle sales and will also unveil stricter emissions rules.

  • President Biden will sign an executive order today that will set a target for half of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric or carbon free by 2030.
  • A majority of car manufacturers have already set emissions reductions targets and EV sales goals.
  • While the executive order will not carry the force of law, the Biden administration should rely on markets, not mandates, to reduce emissions in the United States.

“President Joe Biden will sign an executive order Thursday setting a target for half of all new vehicles sold in the United States to be electric or carbon-free by 2030 as part of a push to reduce the use of gasoline in transportation, the biggest driver of greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change.”
