Congress Debates Infrastructure but Ignores the Interstates

Bob Poole, in The Wall Street Journal, outlines how Congress can update our nation’s interstates.

  • This week we celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System.
  •  Since its construction, our interstate highways have received few upgrades due to different regulatory hurdles that prevent investment from the private sector.
  • In order to update the Interstate Highway System, Congress should look to private sector leadership to update our nation’s highways.

“Infrastructure investors, who have financed $27 billion in new U.S. highway, bridge and tunnel projects in recent years, would jump at the chance to invest in projects like rebuilding existing interstate highways. These investors include public pension funds, insurance companies and funds that specialize in infrastructure.”
