"Global installations of energy storage systems will experience rapid growth this decade, resulting by the end of 2030 in gigawatt capacity more than 20 times larger than the amount online at the end of 2020."
Small box turns waste into treasure for Ivory Coast farmers
"The small green 'KubeKo' box was dreamt up by chemical engineer Noel N'guessan to make use of the 30 million tonnes of waste generated by crop production in the West African country each year and other biowaste like animal dung."
This Company Is Pioneering Self-Cycled Phone Cases
Pivet, an innovative startup founded by Michael Pratt, is disrupting the consumer electronics industry with biodegradable plastic phone cases that basically recycle themselves.
Meet the next generation of carbon campuses
"From Net Zero Teesside in the United Kingdom to Houston’s Carbon Capture Hub, a new generation of carbon campuses — where carbon dioxide emissions are captured, used in products and stored underground — is coming online."
Tesla Energy Ventures Will Provide Retail Electric Services In Texas
"This isn’t the first Tesla subsidiary that is in Texas. Gambit Energy Storage previously announced its construction of 100-megawatt batteries in Houston. Its purpose is to supplement the Southeast Texas grid with large amounts of power if another blackout occurs. Gambit Energy Storage also sells solar panels and batteries."
Could Blockchain And AI Help Prevent Deforestation?
"It would be impossible to physically police the world’s forests, which are vital to the planet’s wellbeing. If applications like blockchain and AI can help, and in some cases prevent further damage from being done then that is no bad thing. As ironic as it sounds, the future of the world’s eco-system is in technology’s hands."
New Research Has Brought Us to the Brink of Fusion Ignition
"The NIF creates temperatures of more than 180 million degrees Fahrenheit, with pressures surpassing 100 billion Earth atmospheres. It's heavy. And these wildly hot and heavy conditions force hydrogen atoms within the target to undergo fusion, releasing tremendous amounts of energy in a controlled reaction called thermonuclear fusion."
Global CO2 emissions have been flat for a decade, new data reveals
"Previously, the GCP data showed global CO2 emissions increasing by an average of 1.4 GtCO2 per year between 2011 and 2019 – prior to Covid-related emissions declines. The new revised dataset shows that global CO2 emissions were essentially flat – increasing by only 0.1GtCO2 per year from 2011 and 2019. When 2020 and 2021 are included, the new GCP data actually shows slightly declining global emissions over the past decade, though this should be treated with caution due to the temporary nature of Covid-related declines."
The pandemic proved that ‘degrowth’ doesn’t help the planet
"Enough. We need to snap out of the environmentalists’ superstitious, 'if it isn’t hurting, it isn’t working' hair-shirtery. We should aim to get richer and greener at the same time. That’s the magic of the market."
Using ocean plastic waste to power ocean cleanup ships
"A team of researchers from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Harvard University believes that the plastic amassing in floating islands in the oceans could be used to power the ships that are sent to clean them up. In their paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the group describes how ocean plastics could be converted to ship fuel."
