Conservation is conservative, and conservative ideas will forever be a vital piece of environmental policy. If California's Democratic leadership takes a chance by cooperating with their Republican colleagues, they may discover it is exactly what their state needs.
Midwestern States Enter New Hydrogen Coalition
While producing hydrogen can still result in carbon emissions, innovation is making this a cleaner and cleaner fuel source.
Bill Gates-backed startup builds a massive refinery to turn alcohol into jet fuel
"LanzaJet's Freedom Pines Fuels project will be the company's first commercial-scale SAF plant. It will also be the first plant in the world to make alcohol-to-jet SAF, which it is hoped could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared to fossil jet fuel. The project is set to be finished in 2023."
COP27 Needs More than Doomism
Communicating the urgency to address climate change is one thing, but unfounded doomism is counterproductive.
To Win on Climate Solutions and Reduce Energy Prices, Boosting Domestic Energy Supplies Is Key
"To achieve the energy security we all want and to win the fight on climate, the U.S. must increase energy supply by facilitating greater domestic natural gas and oil production. As leaders gather at COP27, they just remember that we can’t win on climate and stabilize gas prices without all options on the table."
‘Disarray:’ Texas senators might halt ERCOT power grid redesign
"Lawmakers’ dubious reaction to the proposed redesign appears to have morphed into a red light after senators heard testimony that the untested marketplace would make investors skittish to commit to building coveted natural gas plants in Texas."
Samsung’s new washer captures microplastics from your dirty laundry
"One company certainly won’t solve plastic pollution, but luckily other folks are working on this problem, too. Third-party filters and washing bags are two ways to reduce the environmental cost of washing synthetic materials, yet they’re no substitute for buying less or even ditching plastic clothes altogether."
To Secure Texas’s Future, The ERCOT Grid Will Need More Of Everything
David Blackmon writes in Forbes about Texas’ proposed grid restructuring. “The truth is that Texas is going to need more of everything if it is to be able to sustain its growing population and economy in the coming decades. While that means the need for additional thermal capacity must be satisfied, it also means renewables...
Natural Gas: Fasten Your Seat Belts
"What could worsen fluctuations even further are extreme weather events, which have become more common since the 1970s. That not only accentuates the highs and lows of natural-gas demand but also can affect supply. Colder-than-expected winter days have already caused more freeze-offs in natural-gas supply in recent years, notes Mr. Rubin. In 2021, a cold blast hitting Texas and neighboring states resulted in the largest monthly decline in U.S. natural-gas production ever and a 70-fold increase in local prices."
Startup inks $65M deal to help Air Force make ‘sustainable’ jet fuel on bases
Air Company said the carbon will initially come from industrial facilities — which is how the startup currently makes fuel at its 'pilot plant' in Brooklyn, New York. But the startup also has its hands in direct air capture, which is 'part of the technology that Air Company would be building out on site,' a spokesperson for the firm said.
