Carlo Cariaga reports on Think Geoenergy on Fervo Energy’s agreement to power Southern California with geothermal energy.
- Fervo Energy will provide the Clean Power Alliance (CPA), a Southern California-based electricity provider, with carbon-free geothermal power.
- Fervo will dispatch geothermal energy from Utah to California’s regional grid and power more than 13,000 Southern California homes.
- The project is expected to go live in 2028 and will prevent over 21,000 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.
“Fervo Energy brings a variety of innovative technologies to the geothermal power space including horizontal drilling and distributed fiber optic sensing that it uses to deliver more reliable and cost-effective projects. This approach makes geothermal power accessible in far more places than before and dramatically increases its potential as a widespread energy source.”
