Rep. Donalds is demonstrating the pragmatic leadership necessary for effective energy and climate solutions that will be crucial in a tightly divided Congress.
NRC Staff Whiffs On Nuclear Licensing Modernization
"NRC staff claim they have met the mandate given to them by Congress. But the sheer length of the proposed regulations alone demonstrates this is not the case. The draft framework is twice as long as either of the legacy, prescriptive licensing frameworks, Part 50 and 52, that it is intended to supplant. That is because the staff largely cut and pasted the old rules into the new framework, then added further burdensome regulations, including qualitative health objectives that cannot be complied with and expanded requirements for the notorious 'As Low As Reasonably Achievable' radiation standard, a further invitation to endlessly ratchet regulatory requirements. These latter two standards have been added by NRC staff despite longstanding and clear direction from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission not to use either standard in the way that staff proposes to use them."
The ‘unprecedented’ risks facing our power grid this winter should be a wake-up call for government
"The United States is one of the top energy producers in the world, and Americans should not have to doubt their ability to stay warm and have reliable power this winter. We expect the power grid to keep the refrigerator humming, car charging, and economy running. It’s imperative the Biden administration nominates a FERC commissioner who can set our power grid up for success by prioritizing its safety, reliability, and affordability."
It is Time to Revoke China’s Free Environmental Pass
No matter how much the United States reduces its emissions, no progress will be made if one nation is allowed to emit more than entire continents combined.
Slim majorities mean legislators have a bipartisan climate mandate
"Rather than creating a binary between alarmism and denial, our leaders should chart a path forward on durable, bipartisan climate policy that improves lives and the health of the planet that we call home. We know it can be done. Now it’s time to do it."
Nancy Mace Outlines a Conservative Climate and Energy Agenda
Rep. Nancy Mace joined Right Voices to discuss energy and climate policy in the next Congress.
Does China Really Pick Winners?
"China is a formidable economic competitor, but the key to its success is the energy and ingenuity of its people, not central planning and state subsidies. The strength of the U.S. system is free-market competition and a rule of law that allow innovation and the private allocation of capital. Washington won’t subsidize any more wisely than Beijing does."
Congress Must Think Big on Competitive Energy Infrastructure
"Although the fixes may be technical, every American household and business can appreciate that efficient, competitive infrastructure is a backbone of the economy. Congress has the imperative to act accordingly."
For Energy, America’s Best Foreign Policy Is a Good Domestic Policy
Brigham McCown writes in RealClearEnergy about the importance of domestic energy security. “Likewise, the fervency of the fossil-only crowd is equally misguided. The critical mistake policymakers on both ends of the spectrum have made is the folly of choosing one form over the over. The answer is not whether it is fossil fuels or renewables...
California must invest in forest management or risk squandering CO2 reductions
Kenneth Schrupp outlines why California should invest in forest management in The Orange County Register. “If California is serious about improving the environment, the state’s top priority ought to be preventing mass wildfires that make breathing worse than smoking cigarettes and cause asthma in children — not magic trains that won’t be completed before the...
