Agrivoltaics Is Making Friends Across Partisan Lines, Thanks To Farmers

Tina Casey of CleanTechnica writes about the benefits of agrivoltaics.

The C3 Take
  • Agrivoltaics co-locates solar arrays in grazing fields, row crops, and other agricultural activities to help boost farmer’s bottom lines and reduce emissions.
  • Some research suggests that agrivoltaics also increases crop yields and conserves water and soil.
  • Agrivoltaics has received bipartisan support in Congress with the introduction of the Agrivoltaics Research and Demonstration Act of 2023 which would study the impacts of agrivoltaics and fund R&D at the Department of Agriculture.

“Agrivoltaic researchers have been assembling evidence that the partial shade of solar panels can improve crop yields while conserving water and soil. The relationship is reciprocal, as the vegetation beneath the array creates a cooling microclimate that improves solar conversion efficiency.”
