Mobilizing for Carbon Removal

Peter Eisenberger and Sasha Mackler write in RealClearEnergy about the need to mobilize carbon removal technology.

The C3 Take
  • Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Congress directed the Department of Energy to establish regional direct air capture (DAC) hubs to accelerate breakthroughs in the technology.
  • DAC will play a critical role in reducing emissions as the global demand for reliable and affordable energy continues to climb through 2050.
  • While private sector interest is growing, Congress can help accelerate the commercialization of DAC by investing in research, development, and deployment initiatives.

“The recent policy actions from the U.S. Congress and the early leadership from the private sector are a tremendous start. But a clear mobilization strategy using public private partnerships is needed now that leverages market forces and government policy to enable carbon removal capacity to be available in the time and scale needed to meet the climate challenge.”
