With oil past peak, Shell sharpens 2050 zero emissions goal

Ron Bousso, and Shadia Nasralla of Reuters report that Shell has sharpened its emissions reductions targets.

  • Shell plans to lower its carbon intensity by between 6% and 8% by 2023, 20% by 2030, 45% by 2035, and 100% by mid-century.
  • Shell will aim to reach its goals through increased investments in hydrogen and low-carbon energy.
  • Shell’s commitment shows that the private sector is willing to find ways to meaningfully lower emissions.
