Julian Spector reports on Greentech Media that New York City will begin to import renewable energy from upstate New York.
New York City, which doesn’t have the geographical capacity to produce renewable energy, will begin to import clean energy from upstate New York. The 1,200-megawatt renewable energy transmission line will supply about 15% of the city’s electricity.
“The project amounts to a sort of geographical arbitrage. New York City has millions of electricity customers but limited space to generate wind or solar power. Upstate New York has more plentiful and affordable land but relatively little demand for electricity. The transmission line would connect supply with demand.”
