World Nuclear News writes about China’s plans for a clean energy future.
- Although China still relies primarily on coal-fired power plants, it has made strides to build its renewable energy sector.
- China has also become a large producer of nuclear power.
- America should follow China’s example and build up its nuclear energy sector to maintain global competitiveness and to increase carbon-free energy.
“China has mastered the technology to design and construct gigawatt-class nuclear power plants with pressurized water reactors, it adds. Breakthroughs have also been made in ‘multiple frontier technologies including those associated with fast reactors and advanced small modular reactors.’ The paper says China has launched a project in nuclear power technology to advance research into core technologies of a third-generation pressurized water reactor and a fourth-generation high-temperature gas cooled reactor. ‘The goal is to boost the country’s independent innovation in nuclear power technology.’”
