- China holds a dominant position in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars and also is a producer of the rare earth metals used to produce these batteries.
- In order to supply the green energy transition, imports of materials from China will have to increase.
“Coordinating and scaling such a supply chain would take time, money and significant negotiation, both in Washington and overseas. For a Biden administration’s clean energy vision to become a reality, it will likely be much cheaper, faster and easier to go through China.”
