NASA, DOE aim for nuclear reactor on moon by 2030

  • NASA and the U.S. Department of Energy have renewed their partnership to develop a nuclear power system for the Moon, with a goal of deploying a lunar surface reactor by 2030.

  • The effort, backed by the Artemis Program and a recent executive order from President Trump, aims to provide reliable, long-duration power to support sustained lunar missions and future human exploration of Mars.
