Aaron Larson of Power reports that BWX will explore the possibility of deploying advanced nuclear in Wyoming.
- Virginia-based BWX Technologies has been awarded a two-year contract by Wyoming to asses the viability of deploying microreactors in the state.
- BWX is also working with TerraPower to build the country’s first small modular nuclear reactor on the site of a retiring coal-plant in Kemmerer.
- A supportive technology-neutral policy framework in Wyoming is allowing innovation and technological breakthroughs to thrive in the state.
“Throughout both phases of the contract, BWXT said it will leverage existing U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program (ARDP) achievements through the company’s collaboration with Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and other internal BWXT research and development investments. Through the ARDP, BWXT and DOE have been developing the BANR microreactor since 2021, and this effort in Wyoming ‘represents an acceleration of BWXT’s commercial nuclear development efforts,’ the company said.”
