Wyoming city to host Bill Gates-backed experimental nuclear power project

Mead Gruver of the Associated Press reports that Bill Gates-backed Terra Power will build an experimental power plant in Wyoming.

The C3 Take
  • Bill Gates’ TerraPower, a next-generation nuclear company, will build an experimental power project in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
  • The nuclear power plant will replace a coal plant that is set to retire in 2025 and will employ as many as 2,000 people during construction and 250 once the nuclear plant is operational.
  • Private sector innovation is benefitting our environment and economy alike.

“If it’s as reliable as conventional nuclear power, the 345-megawatt plant would produce enough climate-friendly power to serve about 250,000 homes. The announcement came days after officials from the U.S. and other countries pledged at a global climate-change summit in Scotland to continue working to limit greenhouse gas emissions.”
