- In addition to being safe and reliable, nuclear energy is our largest source of carbon-free power in the United States.
- As we have seen in the case of Germany, the closure of nuclear power plants results in increased emissions.
- The attack on nuclear energy is anti-scientific. If we want to lower domestic and global emissions we should embrace and innovate nuclear power, not reject it.
“Critics say that closing the plant will make meeting sustainability goals more difficult, and there is evidence to support that idea. When one of Indian Point’s two working reactors shut down permanently last summer, the share of the state’s power that came from gas-powered generators increased by several percentage points.”
