US oil lobby launches program to reduce emissions from flaring of natural gas

Josh Siegel of the Washington Examiner reports that the American Petroleum Institute (API) is launching a new initiative to reduce flaring in the natural gas industry.

The C3 Take
  • API’s Environmental Partnership will launch a new initiative in which partnership companies will report data on how much they flare, and share best practices on how to limit flaring.
  • The Partnership, which has more than 80 members and represents 70% of U.S. oil and natural gas production, is looking for ways to not only limit carbon emissions but methane emissions as well.
  • This latest initiative shows a strong environmental commitment from America’s energy companies.
