- DeepMind, a London-based computer programming company, has created an algorithm to control the plasma that fuels nuclear fusion reactors.
- The algorithm can control and shape magnetic coils in the reactor to create and maintain different shapes of plasma, allowing scientists to more efficiently harness energy from fusion.
- Fusion has long been marketed as an infinite source of clean energy, and this breakthrough could be key to scaling up fusion deployment.
- The private sector is creating the innovations that we need to reduce carbon emissions.
“Experimental reactors are notching advances in creating energy but to become useful as a commercial fuel source, reactors will have to generate more energy than is required to produce the reaction in the first place.”
