Adele Peters of Fast Company writes that the world added a record amount of renewable energy in 2021.

  • A new report from the International Energy Agency has found that the world added 295 gigawatts of renewable energy in 2021.
  • The report emphasized that faster and more efficient permitting is needed to accelerate renewable growth worldwide.
  • The United States should modernize its regulatory structure to bring more renewables on the grid and eliminate tariffs to lower costs for consumers.

“’Cutting red tape, accelerating permitting, and providing the right incentives for faster deployment of renewables are some of the most important actions governments can take to address today’s energy security and market challenges, while keeping alive the possibility of reaching our international climate goals,’ Fatih Birol, executive director of the IEA, said in a statement.”
