Will Wade of Bloomberg writes on the important work of Idaho National Laboratory.
- Idaho National Laboratory (INL) has developed, and continues to develop, groundbreaking innovations in the world of nuclear energy.
- INL is working with several advanced nuclear reactor companies to help these startups test reactor designs and evaluate cores and other critical materials.
- The lab is also developing a microreactor dubbed “Marvel” which will demonstrate how fission can be tapped for heat to power industrial processes as well as generate electricity.
“INL calls itself America’s nuclear energy laboratory, and its core missions include keeping the existing fleet of reactors in service and developing the next generation of fission power plants. A total of 52 reactors were built and operated at the facility as the technology became a mainstream source of electricity. The last new one to go into service there was in 1973, though.”
