The Fastest Route to Clean Energy Progress Runs Through the States

Morning Consult’s Warren Leon writes that the fastest route to clean energy progress is through the states.

The C3 Take
  • 17 states plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico have goals to reach zero-emission energy.
  • The quickest and most efficient way to lower our energy emissions is through the states leading, and the federal government providing support.
  • The federal government can support states through the Department of Energy providing technical support and FERC lowering regulatory barriers for clean energy.

“Amid the visions of new federal initiatives, it will be important to remember that the quickest and most cost-effective way to make rapid progress will be to support the states that have been carrying the clean energy banner in recent years. Fortunately, some of the ways to provide that support will not require congressional action or may be palatable to a Congress in which the Republicans retain considerable power.”
