Aaron Larson of Power reports on a green hydrogen breakthrough.
- The New York Power Authority (NYPA), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and GE Vernova have partnered to advance green hydrogen production.
- The trio and other partners retrofitted one of NYPA’s existing natural gas plants to operate on a blend of green hydrogen to generate electricity.
- This demonstration project led to an 85% reduction in CO emissions and a reduction in nitrous oxide as well.
- The success of this project could pave the way for increased use of green hydrogen in electricity generation.
“According to NYPA, this cutting-edge research provides critical insights into the potential for blending clean hydrogen and natural gas, which is one potential use among many for clean hydrogen. This data provides more information to support continued discussions about the future of clean hydrogen that will leverage New York’s commitment to achieving a zero-emissions electric grid and the area’s unique geographies and abundant renewable resources.”
