So-Called Infrastructure Plan Would Federalize California’s Climate Mandates

Congressman Ron Estes writes on The Daily Signal that President Biden’s infrastructure proposal would federalize California’s climate mandates.

  • Part of Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan would allocate $174 billion for the electric vehicle tax credit and replacing government gas-powered vehicles with electric ones.
  • Electric vehicle tax credits are regressive by nature, as it allows for wealthy families to purchase electric vehicles at discount, all on the backs of middle and lower-class families.
  • Instead of distorting the market with increased subsidies, the Biden administration should allow consumers in a free market to decide for themselves what vehicles they want to buy.

“Within President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan is $174 billion that would both extend the electric vehicle tax credit as well as replace government cars with electric ones. To put this level of waste into perspective: $174 billion is more than practically every state budget.”
