BusinessWire reports that SiTration has raised $2.35 million.
- SiTration is a MIT spinoff that has created a separation process that doesn’t use much energy or chemicals to extract rare earth minerals from recycled batteries.
- The patented method can reduce the energy that is needed for extraction by 10% while enabling a recovery yield of 95%.
- This breakthrough could make rare earth minerals more accessible, which would make EVs and other forms of clean energy more affordable.
“With broad applicability across a number of different global industries, SiTration’s technology can address one of the most urgent challenges in decarbonizing transportation: the critical materials supply shortage in the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.”
