Saft wins major BESS project in Taiwan

Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, has strengthened its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by winning a major battery energy storage system (BESS) project with Foxwell Power Co in Taichung. The contract, Saft’s eleventh in Taiwan, will see the company deliver a 356MWh lithium-ion battery system to Foxwell, which is part of Shinfox Energy.

The Taichung BESS project, which will start at the end of 2025 and continue throughout 2026, will comprise 108 I-Shift Li-ion battery containers that offer a compact installation footprint.

The project aims to contribute to Taiwan’s 2050 net zero strategy by helping to manage the intermittency, grid instability and grid congestion that comes with the country’s rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. The BESS will provide two crucial functions – frequency regulation and peak-shifting of renewable energy production.
