- GAF Energy is launching a solar roof product called Timberline Solar, which could rival Tesla’s Solar Roof.
- The Timberline Solar panels can be installed by being nailed to a roof like a normal shingle, a feature that GAF Energy says will lead to reduced costs and installation times for consumers.
- While the Timberline Solar roof is indeed innovative, it is estimated that the install cost will be about twice that of a normal roof.
- As more companies began manufacturing and creating innovative products we may see the cost of solar roofs drop in the future.
“GAF Energy also touts the fact that it assembles and partially manufactures its shingles at its facility in San Jose, California. While the company imports its PV cells from Thailand, it believes that having some domestic manufacturing is advantageous.”
