Mella McEwen of The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports that methane emissions in Texas have hit record lows.
- From 2011 to 2022 methane emissions in the Permian Basin fell by nearly 85% even as production jumped by over 416%.
- Since 2019 flaring in the area has fallen by 66%.
- Companies are voluntarily reducing their emissions footprint by investing in satellite technology to track methane leaks and funding programs for equipment upgrades and repairs.
