Weizhen Tan of CNBC reports that Russia’s weaponization of natural gas supplies could backfire, according to energy expert Dan Yergin.
- If conflict does occur in the region, gas supplies from Russia to Europe will be cut off.
- While damaging to Europe, it could arguably be more detrimental to Russia who would see a more uncertain natural gas market and perhaps less business in the future as countries look elsewhere for energy needs.
- Already Europe has taken steps to diversify its energy portfolio by importing American LNG and including nuclear and natural gas as green investments.
