Pittsburgh’s $1.7B Terminal Redefines Sustainable Travel

Pittsburgh International Airport’s (PIT) new $1.7 billion terminal marks a defining moment in U.S. airport modernization—combining sustainable design, operational efficiency, and economic renewal for Western Pennsylvania. The 811,000-square-foot terminal, part of the airport’s Terminal Modernization Program (TMP), is built to streamline travel, reduce emissions, and serve as a model for resilient infrastructure investment.

A Terminal Built for People — and the Planet

Governor Josh Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll joined local and federal leaders to celebrate the new facility’s completion, underscoring its economic and social impact. The TMP features 12 upgraded security lanes, over 6,000 new parking spaces (including a 3,200-space covered garage), and a 50% reduction in passenger travel time—a design focused squarely on the traveler experience.
