Pipeline Politics Threatens Energy Up North

David Jacobson and Gary Doer write in The Wall Street Journal that pipeline politics are threatening energy security in Michigan and Canada.

The C3 Take
  • Governor Whitmer of Michigan is threatening to shut down the Line 5 pipeline citing environmental concerns.
  • Line 5 carries up to 540,000 barrels of oil and natural gas daily, providing crucial energy to Michigan and Canada.
  • Pipelines are among the most environmentally friendly and efficient ways to transport fossil fuels.
  • As we have seen with the Colonial Pipeline, pipelines are essential for daily life. Shutting down Line 5 would be damaging for the local economy and environment.

“Pipelines are controversial, but this isn’t about being for or against the environment. Millions depend on the energy pipelines deliver for their homes, jobs and businesses. Shutting down Line 5 would inflict significant hurt, and it won’t deliver a cleaner energy future.”
