Nuclear-powered datacenter throws open doors to tenants this year

Dan Robinson of The Register reports on a nuclear-powered data center that is set to open.

The C3 Take
  • The data center will be operated by U.S.-based Cumulus Data and will be located in northeast Pennsylvania.
  • The 48 MW data center is the first to be connected to a nuclear power plant and will begin to offer leasing in Q3 of 2023.
  • Because it will be directly connected to a nuclear power plant the data center will be able to offer some of the most competitive electricity rates in the country.
  • Private sector leadership is accelerating technological progress.

“Touted as the first facility of its kind in the US, datacenters at the campus will be directly connected to the 2.5 gigawatt Susquehanna power plant ‘without intermediation by legacy electric transmission and distribution utilities,’ which the company claims will allow it to offer the most attractive energy rates in the country.”
