- The Biden administration has reversed Trump-era reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Under the Trump proposal NEPA environmental reviews, which are required for nearly every major energy and infrastructure project, would be streamlined and completed in a timely manner.
- The Biden reversal will increase permitting completion times, slowing down the build out of key energy infrastructure.
- If the United States wants to meaningfully reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we must be able to innovate and create in a timely and efficient manner.
“’The ironic thing is that the Biden administration is saying that we need to deploy clean energy technologies faster, but this is only going to slow down progress,’ said Drew Bond, founder of the group and a former adviser for former President George W. Bush at the Department of Energy. ‘This is a win for environmental extremists, not the climate. If anything, the White House should do a review of how NEPA is hurting the climate.'”
