The Wall Street Journal‘s Editorial Board examines how over-dependence on unreliable energy sources will lead to grid failures.
- Grid failures across the country last week highlighted that while the United States may need to upgrade its energy infrastructure we also can not become too dependent on unreliable energy sources.
- While renewable energy has an important role to play in our energy grid, we must continue to embrace an “all of the above” energy strategy that includes fossil fuels and nuclear to ensure clean, affordable, and reliable energy.
- Governments at both the state and federal level must unleash our energy sector, not hinder it by picking winners and losers.
“The ice-cold reality is that grid regulators across the U.S. are struggling to keep the power on during extreme weather. They have been able to avoid more blackouts by ordering energy conservation. But Texas shows that conservation isn’t enough, as government mandates make America more reliant on electric power for everything from heating to cars.”
