Microsoft aims to minimize data centers’ impact on electricity bills

  • Microsoft outlined a “community first” approach to AI data centers, with vice chair and president Brad Smith pledging the company will cover its own electricity costs so local residents do not face higher power bills.

  • The plan also includes commitments to reduce and replenish water use, invest in local jobs and AI training, and increase transparency with communities as tech companies face growing resistance to large data center buildouts.
