Stephanie Kelly of Reuters reports that POET, the largest U.S. biofuels producer, has pledged to be net neutral by 2050.
- Short term, the company will look to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% compared to gasoline by 2030, up from the current 46%.
- POET plans on reaching these goals through carbon sequestration and the use of biomass to power their plants operations.
- The private sector’s environmental leadership shows that free economies are clean economies.
“POET operates 33 facilities across eight states. At full run rates, it produces 3 billion gallons of ethanol, 14 billion pounds of distillers dried grains, and 975 million pounds of corn oil annually.”
