Keurig Plans Launch of Compostable Coffee Pods

Ben Glickman of The Wall Street Journal reports that Keurig is launching compostable coffee pods.

The C3 Take
  • The new K Cups would be plastic-free and aluminum-free and fully compostable.
  • While the company is still navigating the compostable certification process, it said that the pods would be disposed off like coffee grounds.
  • A study from the Washington Post last year found that single use coffee pods are more environmentally friendly than traditional coffee makers because they use less water and fewer beans.

“Keurig Dr Pepper said that it would begin beta testing of the new Alta system, which will take the compostable pods, as early as this fall. The company plans to refine the product further before wide release of the Alta.”
