Vermont Gov. Phil Scott is backing legislation that would allow nuclear power to count toward Vermont’s clean energy targets as a means to lower electricity bills and reduce emissions more quickly than relying on wind and solar alone.

The proposal would roll back parts of the state’s renewable mandate, open the door to importing nuclear power or building new plants, and mark a potential shift after more than a decade since Vermont Yankee shut down.
