GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Auto Plant Is Now ‘Factory Zero’

Sam Abuelsamid, on Forbes reports that General Motor’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant is now “Factory Zero.”

  • Factory Zero will serve to produce emissions-free vehicles for General Motors, including the electric Hummer.
  • GM invested $2.2 billion into creating Factory Zero.
  • This announcement reinforces what we have been saying, the free-market cares about reducing emissions and technological innovation will get us there.

“Factory Zero will be over 4 million square feet in size when it resumes operation, making it among GM’s largest. When it gets up to its full rated capacity of 270,000 vehicles annually, it is expected to employ about 2,200 people.”
