GM-Backed Cruise Launches Driverless Ride Service In San Francisco

  • Cruise, an autonomous robo-taxi service that is backed by Chevy and has over $10 million in funding, will soon begin to roll out its ride share service in San Francisco.
  • Elsewhere, the field of robo-taxis is expanding with Alphabet-backed Waymo operating in Phoenix’s suburbs.
  • Robo-taxis could represent a significant market share of ride hailing services in the future.

“Starting next year Cruise will add purpose-built, electric Origin vans supplied by GM to its fleet and thinks having them do double duty throughout the day, acting as robotaxis during rush hour peaks and shifting to grocery and food deliveries when ride demand drops, will maximize revenue, Vogt says.”
