- The Human Freedom Index, an annual report from the Cato Institute and Frasier Institute, has found that 83% of the world population is less free today than it was in 2008.
- According the Index, the world’s most free countries are Switzerland, New Zealand, Denmark, Estonia, and Ireland.
- This report is important for human flourishing and environmental action because free economies are twice as clean as unfree economies.
- To meaningfully address global climate change while improving human prosperity we should look to solutions that are rooted in economic freedom.
“Freedom in the United States is on the decline in both absolute and relative terms, according to the new report. In 2008, the U.S. ranked seventh in the world but has steadily slipped lower, though it still ranks well ahead of the global average.”
