‘Game-Changer’ FERC Order Opens Up Wholesale Grid Markets to Distributed Energy Resources

As Green Tech Media reports, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) recently passed order 2222 which opens up wholesale electricity markets to distributed energy resources (DERs) such as rooftop solar and electric vehicles.

  • Order 2222 reduces barriers to entry for clean energy technologies to access wholesale electricity markets.
  • This order will make it easier for the electricity produced by rooftop solar to be integrated and sold into the electric grid, incentivizing people to adopt clean energy technology.
  • The next step, and perhaps the hardest, will be for utility grid operators to integrate these energy sources into their grids.
