The C3 Take
  • Some of the pros of nuclear energy include its ability to produce carbon-free power reliably and safely.
  • Nuclear energy plants are expensive to build however, in part due to an inefficient permitting systems that increases construction times.
  • Next-generation technologies will allow nuclear to be scaled more rapidly, which could make it more cost-competitive in the marketplace.
  • Nuclear energy can play an important role in delivering clean power and bolstering energy security for the foreseeable future.

“Our survey results show that people who worry about climate change are more open to advanced nuclear technology than they are to traditional nuclear reactors. In our most recent survey, 65% of the respondents who worried most about climate change supported the use of small modular reactors in the US; less than 50% supported the construction of traditional reactors or plants.”
