Alex Fitzpatrick of Axios reports on a startup that is repurposing electric car batteries for solar energy storage.
- B2U Storage Solutions’ facility in Lancaster, California has reached 25MWh of solar storage by using old EV batteries from Honda and Nissan.
- The batteries are charged up during the day by nearby solar panels and their power is sold back to the grid at night.
- The company said that the facility generated over $1 million in revenue last year.
“A California energy startup has turned more than a thousand electric vehicle (EV) batteries into solar power storage capsules, in an intriguing effort to prove out an alternative to traditional recycling.”
