Commercial Carbon Capture And Use Takes A Step Forward With Carbon Clean

Forbes’ Felicia Jackson reports that the Department of Energy has awarded a grant to further develop carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.

  • While CCS is not to scale yet, it is expected to play a significant role in the world’s emission reduction efforts.
  • Building materials such as cement and steel can be used to not only improve infrastructure but to store carbon as well.
  • In order to advance CCS, private-public partnerships such as these will need to continue.

“While initially carbon capture and storage was associated with the concept of clean coal, the idea that carbon capture would enable the world to continue to use fossil fuels. The energy penalty and the cost of the technology however, combined with the rapid price collapse in renewable energy technologies has undercut its development.”
