Canadian city becomes first to heat buildings through Bitcoin mining

Nihal Krishan of The Washington Examiner reports that North Vancouver has become the first city to heat buildings through bitcoin mining.

  • North Vancouver will use digital boilers which recover more than 96% of the electricity that is used in bitcoin mining in the form of heat energy.
  • In an effort to reduce the emissions of energy-intensive bitcoin mining, we have recently begun to see bitcoin companies partner with nuclear energy providers to power their operations.
  • North Vancouver’s efforts could be serve as a launchpad for future cities to use bitcoin mining to heat their homes.
