Jenny Strasburg and Rhiannon Hoyle of The Wall Street Journal report about BP’s newest hydrogen venture.
- BP is taking over a hydrogen project called the Asian Renewable Energy Hub in Australia.
- The $30 billion project will produce hydrogen fuel with renewable energy via a process called electrolysis.
- Hydrogen, which releases only water when it’s burned, is a fuel carrier that is gaining attention for its potential to reduce emissions in hard to decarbonize sectors such as steelmaking, trucking, and shipping.
- Private sector leadership is voluntarily leading the way to a cleaner energy future.
“Remote, sparsely populated Western Australia is a choice spot for green hydrogen development due to abundant sun, high winds and proximity to the ocean for shipping and seawater that developers say could be converted into hydrogen and ammonia.”
